Kapish is working at the interface between academic research and the industrial application of technology. With valuable research and consulting experience in Europe and Australasia, he has a unique insight into the technology and environmental sectors which are guided by sustainable principles.

He completed his BSc (Hons, First) in chemistry at Auckland University of Technology and he is now in the process of completing his PhD in chemistry at the University of Auckland, specialising in mechanochemical reactions applied to recalcitrant waste streams.

Kapish has focussed on strategy development for EDL’s research and development division, with the primary objective of enhancing the capabilities of the Mechano-Chemical Destruction (MCD TM) system to treat asbestos cement waste and persistent organic pollutants.

Circular economic principles are guiding European policy and legislation toward sustainable recycling technologies for asbestos cement waste. Successful global projects have led to the development of the Mechano-Chemical Destruction (MCD TM) technology, capable of attaining complete asbestos fibre degradation of ‘real-world’ cement matrices and processing at an industrial scale. The resultant material is an inert amorphous powder, which has been shown to be an exceptional high-grade cement additive.
