Magnetic surfactants for control of fluids

Surfactants responsive to magnetic fields are reported, showing remarkable effects on surface and interfacial tension. This new class of magnetic ionic liquid surfactants (MILSs) offers potential for control over surface and bulk properties, showing remarkable effects on surface and interfacial tension, allowing access to magneto-responsive emulsions, new methods of separation and recovery, catalysis and potential magneto-phoretic applications.
